About Us

Ali Modular was founded by Ali and Chris out of a shared love for Eurorack modular synthesis and a passion for pushing its creative possibilities forward.

We started Ali Modular because we believe the best ideas come from genuine curiosity and hands-on exploration. Ali designs the hardware, blending thoughtful design with functional aesthetics to create modules that feel inspiring to use. Chris brings decades of experience to the software side, building intuitive tools that unlock new ways to shape sound and manage your creative process.

Our mission is simple: to make modules and tools that we genuinely want to use in our own racks, things that surprise us, open new doors, and make the joy of modular deeper and more fun.

Thanks for being here. We can’t wait to see what you do with our ideas.

Chris Roberts:

Chris brings nearly 40 years of software development expertise to the Ali Modular line of products, spanning everything from embedded systems to cross-platform desktop and mobile applications. Much of his career has been dedicated to music technology, having contributed to industry leading products at companies such as Digidesign/Avid, Apple, Euphonix, Universal Audio, Meyer Sound, and Artiphon.

In 2019, Chris discovered Eurorack while searching for fresh inspiration in music—and was instantly captivated. In early 2024, Jamar approached him with the idea of forming a partnership: Jamar would handle hardware design, while Chris focused on software development. It turned out to be a perfect match—and the rest, as they say, is history.

Jamar Ali:

Ali is a producer, sound designer, and hardware developer based in Washington, D.C. As a key figure in the MODBAP movement, he’s known for fusing classic Hip Hop rhythm with the raw, exploratory nature of Modular Synthesis. Self-taught in both electronic engineering and programming, Ali built his technical knowledge from the ground up—teaching himself how to design circuits, code digital effects, and build hardware tailored to his own creative vision. Through his YouTube series “How I Use It,” Ali breaks down his production techniques and module workflows, offering insight into his unique hybrid style that blends gear hacking with beat-making. His sonic signature is a blend of Boombap grit, Southern bass, West Coast funk, ambient textures, jazz theory, and modular unpredictability—tied together by hard-hitting drums and rich melodic layering. Ali pushes beyond the boundaries of both traditional Hip Hop and traditional modular synthesis, crafting a style that is at once deeply rooted and wildly futuristic.
